AURORA, Ill., October 1, 2013—Gas price averages for Illinois and Indiana have dropped significantly  with drivers currently paying on average, $3.48 and $3.34 respectively for a gallon of regular unleaded. Gas prices dropped $.28 in September in Illinoisand $.34 in Indiana, marking the largest monthly decline since October 2012.

In September in Illinois, gas prices averaged $3.65, which was down $.06 from August and down $.42 from a year ago. In northern Indiana, gas prices averaged $3.51 in September, which was down $.14 from August and down $.47 from September 2012.

“Drivers in Illinois and Indiana are paying the lowest gas prices since February due to an abundance of gasoline supply, the annual switch over to the less expensive winter blend of gasoline and the end of summer driving season,” said Beth Mosher director of public affairs for AAA Chicago. “The rest of autumn looks promising for continued lower gas prices barring significant refinery issues or higher oil costs.”
