IL/IN drivers still paying lowest prices for June start since 2010
AURORA, Ill., June 1, 2015 — Drivers in Illinois and northern Indiana are paying a little more at the pump this month due to maintenance work at two large refineries. Illinois and Indiana drivers are currently paying on average $2.97 and $2.68 respectively for a gallon of regular unleaded. While these prices reflect a rise of $.34 and $.22 from a month ago, drivers are still paying $.86 and $1.11 less than this time last year.

In May in Illinois, gas prices averaged $2.77, which was up $.19 from April, but still $1.06 less than a year ago. In northern Indiana, gas prices averaged $2.75 in May, which was up $.19 from April and down $.99 from May 2014.

“Prices in Illinois and northern Indiana have risen sharply over the past few weeks due to maintenance issues that are affecting production at local refineries,” said Beth Mosher, director of public affairs for AAA Chicago. “Even with the temporary price spike, prices are still the lowest we’ve seen in June since 2010; drivers setting off on summer road trips will be enjoying these lower pump prices.”
