AURORA, Ill., March 4, 2016 — Gas prices across Illinois and northern Indiana are inching higher as refinery maintenance season gets underway. Illinois drivers are currently paying on average $1.82 per gallon, an increase from $1.65 per gallon a month ago. Indiana drivers are paying $1.83 per gallon, up from $1.58 a month ago. While gas prices have risen throughout Illinois and Indiana, these prices are still $.64 and $.59 lower (respectively) than they were a year ago.

"Gas prices are rising in Illinois, Indiana and many other parts of the country as refineries are starting to conduct maintenance in advance of the busy summer driving season,” said Beth Mosher, director of public affairs for AAA Chicago. “Despite these seasonal increases, abundant supplies and lower crude prices should keep gas prices relatively mild this spring and summer.”

In February in Illinois, gas prices averaged $1.65, which was down $.24 from January and $.73 less than a year ago. In northern Indiana, gas prices averaged $1.52 in February, which was down $.24 from January and down $.73 from February 2015.
