AAA: Five and Four Diamond Restaurants Announced

AURORA, Ill., Feb. 5, 2016 – AAA Chicago has unveiled the 25 restaurants that have earned the AAA/CAA Five or Four Diamond Rating in the past 12 months in Illinois and northern Indiana, qualifying them for the 2016 Five Diamond Award® list. The six restaurants that earned a AAA Five Diamond designation are all located in Chicago, Ill., and are part of an exclusive group of 64 restaurants across the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Caribbean to earn that rating. This represents just 0.2 percent of the 30,000 AAA/CAA Approved and Diamond Rated hotels.
With six Five AAA Five Diamond restaurants, Chicago is second only to New York City as the city with the most Five Diamond restaurants. Additionally, Everest in Chicago joins an elite group of just eight restaurants across the U.S., Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean to hold the Five Diamond designation for 20 or more years.

The 2016 Five Diamond rated hotels for Illinois and northern Indiana are as follows: The full listing for the 2016 AAA/CAA Five Diamond restaurants can be found here.
Additionally, Illinois and northern Indiana boast 19 AAA Four Diamond establishments; 16 are in Illinois and three are in northern Indiana. Nationally, 683 restaurants throughout the U.S., Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean received the Four Diamond Rating in the past 12 months, qualifying them for the 2016 Four Diamond Award list. Chicago ranks 4th across these territories as the region with the most Four Diamond restaurants (15).
To become AAA Diamond rated, hotels and restaurants undergo a thorough inspection by one of AAA’s 65 full-time, highly trained professional evaluators. Five Diamond establishments complete a more extensive review that includes a series of inspections and final committee review.  AAA rates more properties than any other rating entity and is one of only two that conduct physical, on-site evaluations.
AAA first started listing accommodation information in its travel publications in the early 1900s. In 1937, the first field inspectors were hired to inspect hotels, motels and restaurants. In 1963, AAA began to rate all accommodations as good, very good, excellent or outstanding. The Diamond rating process, introduced in 1977 for hotels and 1989 for restaurants, continues to be recognized as one of the most trusted rating process for North American travelers.
