A year of record highs ends close to where it began
AURORA, Ill., January 4, 2013—AAA Chicago’s most recent Fuel Gauge Report estimates that in Illinois, the average regular unleaded gasoline prices decreased $.15 in December with an average cost of $3.365 for the month. This extends the trend from the previous two months, a welcome relief from the year’s previous record highs.  Today’s prices are just $.02 more than they were at this time last year.
In northern Indiana, it is a similar story, with gas prices averaging $3.271 in December, which is down $.16 from November 2012 and up $.015 from December 2011.

“Motorists traveling for the holidays were fortunate enough to see the lowest prices of the year,” said Nick Jarmusz, AAA Chicago spokesperson.  “In the New Year, we are hoping that the downward trend continues, as increased domestic crude oil production and lower demand provide additional relief at the pump.”
